Waukon girls cross country team competes at Crestwood Invitational

The Waukon girls cross country team competed at the Crestwood Invitational Saturday, October 4 in cold, windy conditions that made for a less than ideal running situation. The Indians had just four runners competing at the varsity level, not enough to compile a team a score.Junior Leah Riese continued to lead the Indian effort, placing 13th out of 47 runners in the varsity race with a clocking of 17:53.6. Freshman Gabby Marti and sophomore Grace Blocker also finished within the meet’s top-30 individuals, Marti placing 27th in 19:09.4 and Blocker finishing 29th with a clocking of 19:42.8. Junior Alex Marti wrapped up the Indian varsity effort with her 32nd-place finish in a time of 19:51.5.
The Indians were scheduled to compete at the South Winneshiek Invitational Tuesday, October 7 before preparing for the Northeast Iowa Conference Meet Tuesday, October 14 being hosted by Decorah this year. The Tribe will then take part in its Class 2A State Qualifying Meet that has been scheduled for Thursday, October 23.
