The Tribe tallied 155 points for their best overall team finish of the season, 52 points shy of the third-place finish required for State Meet qualification and earned by North Fayette Valley Thursday with a team score of 103 points.
“What a team effort! It is really hard to describe the performance the girls had at districts and I could not be more proud of what they accomplished this season,” Waukon girls cross country coach Brett Egan beamed. “Through their hard work, they took a huge step forward in the right direction for the cross country program. From ninth place a year ago to finishing one spot away from qualifying for State, I could not have asked for more from them. A week ago, our varsity all finished under 20 minutes. At this meet, we finished with all runners under 19 minutes and that speaks to the level of team effort the girls had. Across the board, the girls had season best times.”
