Brian Slindee

Brian E. Slindee, 51, of Waukon died Monday, November 10, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 15 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing.

Brian Edmund Slindee was born August 18, 1963 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Carl and Alice (Pfiffner) Slindee. Brian loved going to school and attended class in Lansing, New Albin and Decorah; he graduated from Abner Hendrickson School in Decorah in 1984.

After graduating, Brian started work at the Northeast Iowa Developmental Center (later TASC) in Waukon and worked there for nearly 30 years. Some of his favorite jobs were working the cutting wheel, where he trimmed fabrics into strips for making rugs, and sorting loose buttons for packages to be sold in craft stores. In 1991 Brian moved to Mosaic’s group home in Waukon, where he had lived until early 2014.

He enjoyed traveling, especially to visit family; he made multiple trips to Oregon, Minneapolis, MN and La Crosse, WI. Brian also visited Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands. Brian loved to go shopping, even window shopping and going on Black Friday. He also liked to play cards, go bowling and play bocce ball. Having a love of calendars, Brian made many small day-calendars and also had the ability to tell you what day of the week your birthday would fall on that year if you gave him your birth month and day.

Brian really enjoyed Charlie Brown/Peanuts-related things and had a Snoopy stuffed animal that was very special to him and his family. Brian will be remembered as a sweet, loving and wonderful brother, uncle and friend.

Brian is survived by his brother, Dean (Kathy) Slindee of La Crosse, WI; two sisters, Marie Slindee of Minneapolis, MN and Diane (William) Habjan of Lebanon, OR; and three nephews, Andrew Slindee, Matthew (Jessica) Habjan and Eric Habjan. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary casketbearers were Vicki Gluck, Kay Houlihan, John Howe, Bruce Jones, Stacy Kamaus, Glen Moe, Nicky O'Neill, Jacob Sadler and Randy Wohlers. Casketbearers were Dean Slindee, Marie Slindee and Diane, William, Matthew and Eric Habjan.
