Bernice Coorough

Bernice I. (May) Coorough, 94, of Janesville, WI, formerly of Prairie du Chien, WI, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at her home in Janesville. WI. Visitation was held Tuesday, December 9 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, WI. Interment immediately followed the visitation at the Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien, WI.
Bernice, the daughter of John L. and Matilda (Torgerson) Dahly, was born May 17, 1920 in Center Township, Allamakee County. She graduated from Lansing High School in 1938. Bernice was united in marriage with Merlin May February 15, 1943 in Chicago, IL. Merlin preceded her in death May 4, 1969.
Bernice was then united in marriage with Raymond Coorough June 17, 1972 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, WI.  Ray preceded her in death January 15, 1993.
Bernice helped run May’s Fish Shop in Prairie du Chien, WI and worked in the bakery at Piggly Wiggly for over 20 years. Bernice enjoyed playing Yahtzee, gambling, watching television game shows and crossword puzzles.  She had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with her family.
Bernice is survived by her five children, Gary (Cathy) May of San Antonio, TX, Ronald (Ann) May of Fond du Lac, WI, Dianne Gokey of Phoenix, AZ, Roger May of Janesville, WI and Patrick (Betty) May of Janesville, WI; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husbands, Merlin and Ray; two brothers, Carl and Lester Dahly; seven sisters, Mildred Carroll, Hazel Dahl, Myrtle Hastings, Elsie Erickson, Luella Ahearn, Helen Haendel and Louisa Dahly, who died in infancy.
Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Prairie du Chien, WI assisted the family with arrangements.
