The Bottom Line

by Mike Breitbach, District 28 State Senator

Week two of the Legislature in Des Moines and unfortunately my doctor told me I needed to stay at home because of Type B Influenza and possible pneumonia.
This week was scheduled to be a short week as we did not meet Monday due to Martin Luther King Day. I think Dr. King gives us a lot to think about. He was a peace-loving man who worked hard to bring about social change. We can all learn from his example.
I was able to listen Senator Joni Ernst deliver her comments Tuesday night on a national platform. Sitting by her my first two years in Des Moines gave me a great opportunity to be mentored by her. We will miss her at the Capitol.
Kevin Baskins of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has informed me we have had two cases detected of chronic wasting disease in Allamakee County. The DNR has asked to be notified if anyone finds a road kill within a five mile radius of Harpers Ferry or sees a sickly deer in this area. You can find contact information and additional info at www.iowadnr.gov.
If you would like to schedule a time for me to meet with your local group please feel free to contact me to see if we can find a time that would work out.
