Mickey was born October 19, 1943 to Norbert and Catherine (Hawkins) Aschom in La Crosse, WI, one of eight children. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Lansing.
Mickey met the love of his life in La Crosse, WI and October 17, 1992 he made Marion his wife. The couple moved to Rushford, MN in 2001.
In his younger days, Mickey was a proud member of the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department, serving faithfully for many years. He also played baseball with the Lansing Mudcats. Baseball was a favorite love and hobby for Mickey, and he used to have quite an impressive card collection. He was a big fan of the Yankees, particularly Mickey Mantle. He became a big Twins fan after moving to Minnesota. He also loved the Vikings, and it took a brave soul to cheer for the Packers in his presence.
Mickey loved to play games with friends and family. He especially enjoyed playing bingo, dice, cards, The Price is Right, SkipBo with Judy M., and the fifteen-cent game, which was a highlight of his annual birthday/anniversary celebration. Music and singing were a big part of Mickey’s life, and he had a long-standing reputation as being quite the singer. He was often told that he bore a striking resemblance to Elvis Presley, one of his favorites. His favorite song was “God Bless America,” because he had a great love of God and country.
Mickey was very patriotic, and he had a deep appreciation for the men and women who served his beloved country. He also had a deep love and appreciation for all of his nurses.
Mickey is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Marion (Puetz) Aschom; his brother, Norb (Nancy) Aschom of Prairie du Chien, WI; his sister-in-law, Barb Aschom of Brookfield, WI; his sisters, Kathy Christopherson of La Crosse, WI, Susan (Roger) Ekern of Rushford, MN and Julie (Greg) Buel of Punta Gorda, FL.
