Lois Griffith

Lois Marie Griffith, 83, of Lansing, formerly of Hudson, died Monday, April 6, 2015 at her home in Lansing. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, April 9 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Lansing.
Lois was born August 20, 1931 in rural Barkley Township in Iowa, the daughter of Aloysius J. and Agnes (Schaefer) Schmitz. She attended Gilbertville and St. Mary’s High School.
Lois was united in marriage to Lloyd Oliver Griffith August 30, 1952 in Canton, SD. To this union two children were born, Larry and Jan. Lois engaged in farming with her husband. In her younger years, Lois loved snowmobiling, boating, jet skiing and picnicking with her family on the river.
In her early retirement years, Lois enjoyed refinishing wood working projects with her husband. In her later years, she enjoyed gardening, reading, shopping and attending events with her friends. Most of all, Lois cared deeply about her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Lois is survived by her two children, Larry E. Griffith and his wife, Christine, of Waterloo and Jan M. Griffith of Lansing; three grandchildren, Quinton and Ethan Griffith of Waterloo and Chandler Quirk of Lansing; and three sisters-in-law, Marceline and Katherine Schmitz, both of La Porte City, and Sibyl Brees of New Hampton.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Griffith, in 2011; her parents, Aloysius and Agnes (Schaefer) Schmitz; four brothers, Richard, Jimmie, Eugene and Donald Schmitz; and one sister, Geraldine Schmitz.
Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
