Carlton Jones

Carlton F. Jones, 101, of Waukon died Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 29 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Kim Gates officiating. Burial was at Sixteen Cemetery, rural Monona.
Carlton Floyd Jones was born August 10, 1914 in Ion, the son of Andrew and Floy (Clawson) Jones. He attended Ion country school in rural Harpers Ferry. November 13, 1934 he married Helen Leona Hamm in Waukon. Carlton owned and operated a sawmill and did some logging in the Waterville area for many years. He also drove semi and worked as a mechanic in Chatfield, MN. For many years Carlton farmed in rural Monona and worked for Carnation Genetics breeding cows. He also served as a councilman and as mayor for Waterville for many years.
Carlton was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon and was a member of the Waterville Fire Department for many years, where he served as fire chief. He also was a deputy for Allamakee County when they needed him during special events.
Carlton loved spending time and visiting with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and playing marbles. He was in several area bands and played for dances at Rainbow Gardens, the City Hall in Marquette, and Waukon Junction.
Survivors include three daughters: Frances Bollman of Waukon, Barbara (Edward) O'Connell of Eastman, WI and Connie (Duane) Leuenberger of Decorah; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 54 great-great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Dayton (Katey) Jones and Milton (Romona) Jones, both of Waukon Junction, and Leon (Linda) Jones of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters: Vera (Lyle) House of Fountain, MN, and Ruth Hamm and Janet Miller, both of Waukon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen, who died in 2006; three children: an infant son, Paul, a 10-month-old daughter, Lois, and a daughter, Cleo Freilinger Ludvik; a granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a son-in-law, LeRoy Bollman; four sisters: Pearl Hamm, Helen Brown, Irene Benzing and Lorraine Hamm; and a brother, John Jones.
Honorary casketbearers were Carlton's brothers and sisters. Casketbearers were Chris Bruce, Don Bollman, Doug O'Connell, John Mickey, Bob Stamper and Kale Freilinger.
