The Waukon football team opened its 2015 home schedule with another air show, throwing for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns in defeating long-time rival Decorah Friday, September 4 by a 28-17 final result. The Indians defeated the visiting Vikings on the grid iron for the first time since the 2007 season, which was also the last time the Vikings started a football season 0-2 and ultimately ended up with a losing season record. The game was played under warm, humid conditions that proved troublesome for both squads.
The Indians will wrap up their non-district schedule for this season with a trip to Cresco this Friday, September 11 to take on a 1-1 Crestwood Cadet team that comes off a 34-19 road victory at Hampton-Dumont this past Friday. The Cadets suffered a 14-6 home loss to New Hampton to open the season.
The Tribe joins Center Point-Urbana as the only Class 2A District 3 teams remaining without an early-season loss, as pre-season district front-runners North Fayette Valley - 36-15 vs. Independence, Dyersville Beckman - 22-12 vs. Western Dubuque, and New Hampton - 26-13 vs. Charles City - each suffered their first losses of the season this past Friday.
