Shirley Manning

Shirley Lavonne (Lund) Manning, 72, passed away at her home in Postville Monday, September 7, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, September 11 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.
Shirley was born October 28, 1942 in Iowa City, the only child of Matthias and Jesse (Geno) Lund. She graduated from Lansing High School.
Shirley married Gerald F. (Jerry) Manning at Immaculate Conception, Lansing June 29, 1968. Shirley and Jerry lived in the Lansing area for the majority of their married life. Shirley worked at McGregor Speaker Factory, Lansing Company Button Factory and they operated Jer & Shirl’s Tap in the 1970s as well as the River Lanes Tavern and Bowling Alley in Lansing until 1999. Jerry passed away December 24, 1999.
In 2000, Shirley met Bob Friederich while attending a grief support group. Together, Shirley and Bob built a life together as they healed from the loss of their loved ones. Shirley loved animals, especially her “kitties”, playing cards, rolling dice, attending stock car races, traveling with Bob, and being with people.
She is survived by special friend, Bob Friederich; Bob’s five children, Allen (Luann) of Luana, Chuck of Kellan, TX, Kevin (Jackie) of Prairie du Chien, WI, Brian (Lova) of Des Moines and Randy (Joyce) of Clive, along with their families; Mae Friederich; a sister-in-law, Peg (Manning) (Vern) Hingtgen of Dubuque; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Cyril and Viola (Augedal) Manning, Jim and Ann (Manning) Seeley, Cletus and Ella Mae (Manning) Sweeney, Bill and Vi (Ferring) Manning and Dick Manning.
