Robert Butler

Robert D. Butler, 80, of Waukon died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at his home in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Friday, October 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Friends may call one hour before services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements for the family.
Robert Dale Butler was born October 14, 1934 in Marshalltown, the son of Dale and Maude (Harvey) Butler. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1953, and attended Coe College before serving in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War. After the service Bob attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
June 18, 1960, he married Jane Cronin at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. He worked as a retail manager for the WT Grant Company in various places, including Cedar Rapids, Lincoln, NE, Des Moines, Wichita, KS, East Alton, IL, Terre Haute, IN and Greendale, WI. In 1974, he and Jane moved to Waukon and owned and operated Butler's Variety Store for several years. Bob was also a rural mail carrier in the Waukon area and drove school bus for the Allamakee Community School District for many years.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Bob served on the St. Patrick School Board and taught CCD. He was also a member of the Waukon Golf and Country Club, where he served as a past president; the VFW and the Waukon Indians Booster Club. Bob enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, and socializing with family and friends. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Waukon; his children: Mary Beth (Matt) Drew of Pewaukee, WI, Kim (Carlos) Marroquin of Carver, MN, David (Jennifer) Butler of Kansas City, MO and Amy (Matt) Garrett of Waukon; six grandchildren: Joshua, Michael and Alison Drew, Amelia Marroquin, and Sydney and Skylar Garrett; one great-granddaughter, Eden Elizabeth Drew; and a cousin, Diane Annis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary casketbearers are Roger and Jeanette Ruengnitz, Wayne and Nona Sawyer, Audrey Angel, Kay Zimmerman, Ed and Chris Lauerman, Francis and Celia Garrett, and Jim and Ellen Mellick.
