Todd Schmauss

Todd E. Schmauss, age 35, of Decorah, formerly of Cresco, died Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Regional Health Services of Howard County. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 26 at First Congregational Church in Cresco, with Pastor Tim Sir and Father Dennis Cain presiding.
Todd Eugene Schmauss was born May 17, 1980 in Cresco, the son of John and Nancy (Schoeberl) Schmauss. In 1998, Todd graduated from Crestwood High School, and he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Fitness Management from Upper Iowa University. While attending Iowa Central Community College he was a junior college wrestling All-American. After college Todd played semi-pro football with the Rochester Giants.
Todd was the owner and operator of The Mat in Decorah. He trained extensively and won the Midwest MMA Heavyweight title. Todd had a heart of gold and a great sense of humor.  His true passion in life was coaching and inspiring area youth and young adults to see the potential in themselves. Todd enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.
July 2, 2011, Todd married Kimberly Johnson in Cresco. He cherished his wife, Kim, and her three children.
Surviving Todd are his wife, Kim, of Decorah and her children, Stella, Greta and Gus; his parents, John and Nancy Schmauss of Cresco; two brothers, Thomas (Laura) Schmauss of Cresco and their children, Mitchell and Carter, and Brady (Megan) Schmauss of Denver; his father- and mother-in-law, Larry and Sharon Johnson of Decorah; his brothers-in-law, Jason (Heather) Johnson of Dorchester, Chad Johnson of Waukon and Jeremiah Johnson of Decorah; his sister-in-law, Ashley (Justin) Ahlstrom of Waukon; his grandmother-in-law, Sylvia Marti of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Todd in death were his paternal grandparents, Francis and Bernice Schmauss; and his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Elsie Schoeberl.
