Lorraine Koenig

Lorraine Koenig, 95, of Frankville died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society, Postville. Funeral Services were held Saturday, October 17 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, with Rev. Dave Lenth and Rev. Jack Gannett as the Officiants. Burial followed at Salem Cemetery, rural Waukon.
Lorraine Marion Henning was born February 28, 1920 on a farm in Ludlow Township to Theodore and Emma (Grotegut) Henning. She attended rural school in Ludlow Township #4 through the eighth grade and ninth and tenth grade in Frankville.
Lorraine was united in marriage with Harlen Koenig December 8, 1938 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Eight children were born to this union: Shirley, Donald, Luann, Duane, Douglas, Bradley, Peggy and Lisa. They celebrated 76 years of marriage together. Lorraine was a homemaker on the family farm near Frankville and also worked at the Good Samaritan Society in Postville for 24 years. She became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society in March 2015.
Lorraine enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, baking, canning, growing and enjoying beautiful flowers, needle work and helping Harlen with scrapbooks. Her fondest memories included riding her pony to school and winning spelling bees - she was a great speller and could spell any word, even up to her final days. Lorraine loved to listen to Harlen serenade her with the harmonica. She was a member of the Postville Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid Society.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Harlen Koenig; eight children: Shirley (Jerry) Blakeslee of Boscobel, WI, Donald (Judy) Koenig of Wakefield, NE, Luann (Calvin) Vacek of Racine, WI, Duane (Norma) Koenig of Postville, Douglas (Rhonda) Koenig of Frankville, Bradley Koenig of Denver, Peggy (Brian) Keuning of Menlo and Lisa (Brian) Snitker of Frankville; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Gertrude Hagen of Waukon and Betty (Virgil) Opfer of Waukon; her brother, Robert (Dorothy) Henning of Ossian; her brother-in-law, Verne Koenig of Decorah; her sisters-in-law, Ruby Koenig of Postville and Bernice Koenig of Ankeny; and several nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Emma Henning; four brothers, Reuben, Lawrence, Irvin and Calvin; and a daughter-in-law, Sally Koenig.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville assisted the family with arrangements. Pallbearers were Lorraine's grandsons, Kevin Koenig, Tim Blakeslee, Cory Koenig, Bryce Koenig, Nicholas Snitker and Lucas Keuning. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her special caregiver  and friend, Kris Meyer.
