Edward "Bill" Williams III

Edward Theodore Williams III, M.D., known to friends as Bill, age 72, died at his home October 24, 2015. A private memorial service will be held.
Born April 19, 1943 in Ann Arbor, MI to Dr. Edward Theodore and Ruth Marion Thompson Williams, he was raised in LaGrange, TX. Bill attended M.I.T. before transferring to the University of Texas. He earned his doctorate of medicine at the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, TX. He completed his residency at the University of Michigan Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, where he became Chief Resident, and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a pediatrician at the Pensacola Naval Air Station Hospital.
In 1973, he settled in Tampa, FL to practice pediatric medicine for the next 30 years, working with the Griewe & Pippin Pediatric Group, running his solo practice, and completing his tenure with the Pediatric Healthcare Alliance. He served as President of the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Hillsborough County Pediatric Society and was a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at USF.
Bill was an accomplished sailor, scuba diver, pilot, writer and classical guitarist. He enjoyed traveling, cooking and reading in his retirement years. A lifelong Episcopalian, he was a parishioner and usher at St. John’s Church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janice Allison Williams; his son, Ian; his daughter, Allison (Keith) Shamblin, and their children, Reid, Kate and Bo; his son, Colin (Maureen Lennon) Williams, and their children, Conner, Gage and Elizabeth; his brothers, Dr. John Williams and Bruce Williams; his sister, Dr. Lucia Williams; his mother-in-law, Irene Allison; his brothers-in-law, Jim Allison, Jack Allison and Jerome Allison; and his sister-in-law, Jill Allison Teslow.
Bill was predeceased by his mother and father; his step-mother, Marjorie Logan Williams; and his father-in-law, James T. Allison.
Bill will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, intellectual wit, advocacy for children, musical prowess and soul-warming Cajun gumbo.
