Dorothy Van Brocklin

Dorothy Van Brocklin, 91, of New Albin passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, November 17 at the New Albin Community Center in New Albin, with Pastor Paul Burgess as the Officiant. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 18 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.
Dorothy, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Tindel) Stube, was born January 2, 1924 in Greene. She graduated from Waukon High School. Dorothy was united in marriage with Dwight Joseph Van Brocklin in 1956. To this union, two sons were born. Dwight preceded her in death November 17, 1969.
Dorothy and her sister, Margaret, worked in Washington, D.C. after high school. She also worked at the Lansing Button Factory.  Dorothy provided in-home care for many people in the New Albin and Lansing areas. She loved quilting and gardening. Dorothy was a seamstress who mended clothing for many people, and she even had her sewing machine at Thornton Manor for some time while she was a resident.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Joseph Van Brocklin of New Albin; her sister, Margaret Smith of Vancouver, WA; her nephew, Jim Smith of Reno, NV; and two nieces, Marcie of Arizona and Connie of Caledonia, MN.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight; her son, Paul, who died in 2009; her parents; and a nephew, Rex Smith.
Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
