Paul Heitman, a 2004 graduate of Waukon High School, was named 2015 Marshalltown Police Department Employee of the Year. He was presented with the award at a Marshalltown City Council meeting earlier this year.
Following his high school graduation, Heitman attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminology. Before joining the Marshalltown police force, he worked as a security guard in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area.  Heitman became a reserve officer, volunteering 20 hours a month for the Oelwein Police Department, and continued his education at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.
Officer Heitman joined the Marshalltown Police Department in the fall of 2012 and attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston, finishing his training that December. Heitman was nominated for the honor of Employee of the Year by his colleagues, who presented his merits to a committee made up of individuals from various aspects of the Marshalltown Police Department.
Police Chief Michael Tupper reviewed the nominations and chose Heitman for this award. Chief Tupper said the officer was deserving of the distinction because Paul “epitomizes what it means to serve with honor, dedication and commitment. Officer Heitman is an outstanding representative of the Marshalltown Police Department and we all deeply appreciate his service to our community.”
Heitman is the son of Alan and Lori Heitman and the grandson of Gladys Heitman, all of New Albin. He and his wife, Lisa, were married in October of last year and live in Marshalltown.
