Waukon girls track team has 4x100 relay qualify for Drake Relays

The Waukon girls track team is the lone local squad to have any events qualified for the annual Drake Relays mid-season showcase this season. The Tribe’s 4x100 relay  team of juniors Regan Wasson and Lanci Bulman, and seniors Nicole Behrend and Madison Snitker - with senior Leah Riese serving as an alternate competitor - made its way in to the 80-team high school girls Drake Relays field in that event with ease with its season-best time of 52.04 seconds, which ranks them 56th among those 80 qualifying teams and just over a quarter-second under this year’s qualifying cut-off time of 52.41 seconds. The team from Cedar Rapids Jefferson holds this season’s best 4x100 relay mark so far, clocking in at 48.72 seconds.

That Indian foursome will compete this Friday, April 29 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, with the 4x100 high school girls relay scheduled to begin at 5:10 p.m. Waukon is slated to compete in the seventh out of 10 preliminary heats in that 4x100 relay, starting in lane 8 in that eight-team heat. The teams with the eight best preliminary times will then advance on to the 4x100 finals slated for Saturday, April 30 at 3:35 p.m.
