Originally started several years ago by owners Brad and Becky Decker of Waukon, BD Productions has recently moved to its new location within the town of Waukon. The event rental, design and decorating business is now located at 612 Rossville Road, Suite 2, adjacent to the Waukon Banquet Center in southwest Waukon.

"I have always had an entrepreneur spirit," Becky Decker said when asked what inspired her to open her own business. "Both of our parents owned their own businesses.  I have two existing businesses that I run currently, BD Productions and Decker Consulting. I have always been creative and Brad has always been crafty with wood. BD Productions allows us to utilize both of our strengths."

Both natives to the Waukon area and also raising their three children here, the Deckers say they enjoy living in a small town and the safety that brings. They also appreciate the community sense and the landscape of the area, and they saw a need for the type of start-to-finish service they provide with BD Productions.

"We believe BD Productions is the only full-service event rental, design and decorating business within the area," the Deckers shared. "From birthdays and backyard barbecues, to weddings and graduation parties, we have the décor of your choice. We are unique due to the fact that we will design your gathering and provide the service of set-up and tear-down."

In addition to those services provided, BD Productions also works closely with the Waukon Banquet Center to bring several unique events to the Waukon community, such as dueling pianos, hypnotists, comedians and magicians. "We have enjoyed bringing events to the community and hope to continue to offer this a couple times a year," the Deckers say. "We hope to continue to grow and stay current with trends.  There are endless possibilities with weddings and rental opportunities. In the future we may add other services."
For now, the Deckers are enjoying their new location and the interaction they have with their clientele. "The most rewarding part of owning our own business is meeting with a new bride or celebrating an 80th birthday party with our clients," they remarked. "We meet with each client and personally get to know them and their tastes. We want their event to showcase their personalities."

That more enjoyable personal interaction, however, can also sometimes lend itself to their greatest challenges as well. "The most challenging portion of running BD Productions is making each event different and trying to achieve or replicate the client’s vision," they explained.

After graduating from Waukon High School, Becky attended Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) in Calmar and Brad served in the U.S. Army reserves for nine years. They were married in August of 1992 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Waukon and have three children. Daughter Bronte and son Desmond will each graduate in May from Upper Iowa University and Iowa State University, respectively. Their other son, Denzel, is a seventh grader at Waukon Middle School and seems to be following in his parents' footsteps with owning his own business. He currently operates Decker’s Delish, a business where he creates homemade cupcakes with a variety of flavors.

BD Productions will be open at its new location by appointment only. Those in need of assistance in planning an event, from overall to just a final detail, can call 563-419-8194 for an appointment.
