The Waukon boys track team was looking to keep the 2016 season going for as many events as possible, competing at its Class 2A State Qualifying Meet hosted by North Fayette Valley at West Union Thursday, May 12. Just three individuals were able to achieve that next level, but two of them did so in multiple events to advance five total events to the Class 2A State Track Meet later this week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The senior pair of Peyton Hesse and Wyatt Wille each earned a pair of State Meet qualifications, with junior Tyler O’Neill running to one of his own. Hesse’s pair of State Meet qualifications both came in championship fashion in the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run, with Wille also qualifying in two events with a championship and runner-up finish in the high jump and 400 meter hurdles, respectively. O’Neill also automatically qualified with his own runner-up effort in the 3200 meter run, those qualifying efforts leading the way for the Indians to 81 team points and a third-place team finish in the 12-team final standings.
