The Kee softball team competed in a very busy week of eight games this past week, posting a marked degree of success in winning six of those eight games. The Hawks started the week by continuing their Upper Iowa Conference dominance with yet another doubleheader sweep with 12-0 triumphs in just four and three innings at Central Elkader Monday, June 20. Kee then also swept New Hampton on the road Tuesday, June 21 by scores of 10-0 in five innings and 4-2 before suffering a rare weekday loss, 5-3, at Sumner-Fredericksburg Wednesday, June 22. The Hawk diamond dwellers then played to a third-place finish at the Decorah Tournament Saturday, June 25, defeating Turkey Valley, 10-0, in five innings in the opening round before falling to Perry, 10-0, in six innings and then defeating Central Elkader, 14-2, in five innings in the consolation finals.

Improving their Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) undefeated streak to 14 straight games, and holding a 25-6 overall record, the Lady Hawks were next scheduled to wrap up their regular season on the road with doubleheaders at Turkey Valley Monday, June 27 and at South Winneshiek Thursday, June 30 before competing in the Don Bosco Tournament Friday and Saturday, July 1 and 2.

The Hawks will then open postseason tournament play in Class 1A Region 3 with a quarterfinal match-up Wednesday, July 6. Complete details of Kee’s postseason tournament journey appear elsewhere on this same page in a shaded box.

“The girls love the support, especially when district games come around,” Kee softball head coach Liz Hill said. “The seats fill up quick, so showing up early is important. We had two tough losses this week, but those losses are only preparing us to be the best ball club we can be for the district games that are coming up.”
