The Waukon softball team started its past week off with its biggest win of the season, but gradually tapered off to just two wins in five games played. That big initial win was a 6-5 triumph at then Class 4A 12th-rated Charles City Monday, June 20 before the Indians split at home with Decorah Wednesday, June 22, falling by a 6-2 count before rallying for a 9-8 nightcap victory to stay one game ahead of the Vikings in the Northeast Iowa Conference standings. The softball Tribe then ventured to Decorah Saturday, June 25 for a weekend tournament, falling in two games, 11-1 in five innings to Perry and 12-4 to Turkey Valley.

Holding a 3-9 record in Northeast Iowa Conference play and a 7-16 overall record, the Indians were scheduled to wrap up their regular season with two final home dates, a Tuesday, June 28 doubleheader against New Hampton and Thursday, June 30 against Crestwood before beginning postseason tournament play Wednesday, July 6 at Dyersville Beckman. Further details of the Indians’ postseason journey are printed elsewhere on this same page in a shaded box.
