Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital membership drive is now underway
The members of the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital are actively recruiting new and returning members to join them during their annual membership drive.
The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital is devoted to providing the hospital and its patients and visitors with many services. The Auxiliary also holds annual fundraisers, such as the Women’s Health Day Luncheon each fall, the Masquerade accessories sale each October as well as the Pillow-Perk and their annual membership drive each July. All the money the Auxiliary receives goes back to the hospital for equipment, and that money has been used to purchase numerous items for the hospital, including a new patient weigh bed, maternity services birthing beds, a new mammography viewbox for Radiology, two digital cameras, two ice machines, a chemotherapy chair, blanket warmers, a NuStep exercise machine, an EKG machine, flat screen TVs for all the patient rooms, a birthing tub, a fetal heart monitor, and most recently, a new infant warmer for the Maternity Services Department.
The Auxiliary also has a hard-cover, three-ring cookbook available for sale at Veterans Memorial Hospital. The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital collected recipes from all current hospital staff and volunteers, and included all the recipes from past hospital cookbooks dating back to 1964. Over 1,000 recipes are available in the book, including a special diabetic section with many recipes submitted by the Diabetic Support Group as well as the Youth Diabetic Support Group.
A full history of Veterans Memorial Hospital including photos from the start in 1950 to the present is included in the book. Special sections on healthy tips for traveling, grocery shopping, and preparing meals, as well as the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, are also included. In addition, the inside front and back covers of the book include a fill listing of substitutions for lowering fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sugar and sodium when cooking.
These Veterans Memorial Hospital Staff and Volunteer cookbooks were compiled in honor of the hospital’s 60th anniversary and are available for sale at the hospital’s main entrance for $15 each.
The Auxiliary meets the second Monday of each month at 1 p.m. in the Large Conference Room at Veterans Memorial Hospital. The Auxiliary also holds a monthly Euchre Marathon tournament to raise funds the third Thursday of each month.
