Hansmeier brothers earn advancement to District Tournament, lead Waukon wrestling team to sixth-place team finish at Class 2A Sectional Tournament


Rocking the cradle to career win number 100 ... Waukon wrestling 170-pound senior Tristan Hansmeier has Crestwood junior Ross Niewoehner locked up in a cradle in their Class 2A Sectional 10 semifinals match Saturday, February 3 at Luther College in Decorah on the way to a win by 18-2 technical fall in 4:48 to record the 100th win of his high school wrestling career. Hansmeier had his title hopes dashed by a fall in the championship match but finished as the Sectional 10 170-pound runner-up to earn advancement to this Saturday’s District 5 Tournament. 138-pound sectional champion ... Waukon wrestling 138-pound junior Miles Hansmeier has North Fayette Valley sophomore Joel Grimes in a tough position on the way to a 7-0 win by decision in their Class 2A Sectional 10 semifinals match Saturday, February 3 at Luther College in Decorah. Tristan Hansmeier achieves milestone 100th career win with semifinals technical fall

The 2017-2018 wrestling season came to a close for all but two members of the Waukon wrestling team Saturday, February 3 at the mat Tribe’s Class 2A Sectional 10 Tournament held at Luther College in Decorah. Those two wrestlers - the brother tandem of senior Tristan and junior Miles Hansmeier - were the only two Indians to wrestle to the required top-two finish in their respective weight classes at the tournament to earn further advancement down the postseason wrestling road, pacing the Indians to 82.5 team points and a sixth-place finish in the tournament’s final team standings.
