Gene Ewing

Gene Willis Ewing, 87, of Monona died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Northgate Care Center, Waukon. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 14 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home in Monona.  Rev. Deb Parkison will be the officiant. Interment will be held in the Monona City Cemetery with Military Rites.

Gene Willis, the son of George and Bertha (Segrist) Ewing, was born September 28, 1930 at home in Allamakee County. He attended country school in the Forest Mills area. Gene served with the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953 and was stationed in Greenland.

Gene was united in marriage with Margie Watson January 27, 1951 at the Forest Mills Church. He owned and operated Ewing Plumbing and Heating in Monona with his son, Rex. He retired in 1998.

Gene was a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Parish in Monona.  He served as a volunteer fireman and was a member of the Amvets and American Legion.

Gene enjoyed golfing, stock car racing with Rex and the “guys”, Chicago Cubs baseball, fishing and polka dancing. He especially looked forward to his talks with his great-grandson, Jacob, Wednesday afternoons.

Gene is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margie, of Waukon; two daughters, Sandy (Jimmy) Schellhorn of Monona and Marsha Reisner of Waukon; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Megan) Schellhorn, Heather (Duane) Lange, Nancy (Chet) Knutson, Nikki (Billy) Breimon, Trent Reisner, Adam (Heather) Ewing and Jennifer (Randy) Hickey; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Inez Watson of Postville.

Gene was preceded in death by his son, Rex Ewing; a daughter, Nancy, who died in infancy; his parents, George and Bertha Ewing; and a sister, Darlene Schutte.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona assisted the family with arrangements.
