Leroy Elwin Nolting was born August 19, 1929 in Waukon, the son of Albert Paul and Rosa Mary (Dee) Nolting. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and attended Elk country school and Waukon High School. After being drafted into the U.S. Army, Leroy served from 1953-1955, some of which was spent in Germany.

He farmed with his dad until Albert’s death, after which Leroy took over the farm. The “Old McDonald” farm, as it was referred to, consisted over the years of dairy cows, pigs and sheep, chickens, and ducks and geese. Leroy loved animals and often had a dog with him. He also had a love of Case tractors, which was something he inherited from his dad.

In 1989, Leroy retired and moved off the farm, though he still worked as a farm hand for other farmers and also had a newspaper delivery route. He was a quiet individual and spent much of his time caring for his mom. He enjoyed going to auctions and was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his sister, Marlys (Duane) Martins of Waukon; his brother, Leon Nolting of Washington, D.C.; three nieces: Dr. Jan (Kent) Nolting Carter of Washington, D.C., Lisa (Mike Bissen) Martins of Overland Park, KS and Lynne Martins of Prairie du Chien, WI; his nephew, Lonnie (Elise) Martins of Luana; and six great-nieces and nephews, Tristan, Seth, Kelleigh, Claire, Sara and Tyler. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Anne Nolting.

Thank you to St. Croix Hospice and Northgate Care Center for the excellent care they provided for Leroy.

Honorary casketbearers are Leroy's nieces and nephews. Online condolences may be left at www.martinfunerals.com.
