Byway Art Project coming to Waukon

The Driftless Area Scenic Byway Advisory Board and Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) are working closely with the Waukon Art Advisory Committee to complete a public art installation in downtown Waukon.

The Advisory Committee selected artist Cara Briggs Farmer of Marion to develop a public art project to be placed in the downtown plaza area at the stoplight intersection of Main Street and Spring Avenue/Rossville Road in Waukon. The installment was designed to reflect the vibrancy and uniqueness of Waukon and will complement the downtown area surrounding it. It is part of a larger statewide project supported by the National Endowment for the Arts “Our Town Grant Program” to install a total of 16 public art pieces in scenic byway communities throughout Iowa.

The piece in Waukon is expected to be installed in late 2018 or early 2019. A scale model of the art piece created by Farmer for Waukon is pictured at right. Additional information about the artwork and its placement location will be made public as it becomes readily available.

The Waukon Art Advisory Committee is still in need of additional local funds to complete the project.
