Waukon girls track team hosts own Indian Relays, wins Bulldog Relays

The Waukon girls track team finally got a full slate of originally scheduled outdoor competition in this past week, hosting the first and only varsity home meet at Waukon High School this season. The Lady Indians finished fifth in their own Indian Relays Tuesday, April 24 before winning the MFL/MarMac Bulldog Relays Thursday, April 26.
The Indians are next scheduled to travel to Edgewood-Colesburg Monday, April 30 before competing in the annual Northeast Iowa Conference Meet Thursday, May 3. The track Tribe will then prepare for its Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Osage Thursday, May 10.

The Waukon track girls were finally able to host the only varsity meet to be run on the Waukon High School track this season, as their previous home meet and both Waukon boys track team’s home meets had been canceled by winter weather earlier this season. The Lady Indians managed seven top-four event finishes at their own meet, tallying 54.5 points to finish fifth in the meet’s eight-team field, just half a point out of a fourth-place finish among the meet’s eight competing teams.

The track Lady Indians wrapped up their week with a trip to Monona Thursday, April 26, taking part in the Bulldog Relays at MFL/MarMac and coming away with a team championship. That team title followed the lead of four event victories and five runner-up finishes to rack up 126 team points and edge out Central Elkader for that invitational crown by a single point.
