Ryan Schulte

Ryan R. Schulte, 38, of Waukon died Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon from injuries sustained in a fall. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Hanover Cemetery, rural Waukon.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. scripture service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service or Waukon Fire Department.

Ryan Robert Schulte was born February 21, 1980 in Waukon, the son of Richard and Sue (Ewing) Schulte. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1999. After graduating, Ryan moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for Maxwell Construction and later for Carter & Fitzpatrick Construction. He moved back to Waukon and worked for J & M Excavating and has been working for Skyline Construction, Inc. for the past 10 years, both in Decorah.

He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, mushroom hunting, cutting wood, camping and taking care of the family farm. Ryan loved spending time with his family, especially at family gatherings, and spending time with his dog, Marley.

Survivors include his father, Richard Schulte of Dorchester; his mother, Sue (Dave) Burroughs of Waterville; a sister, Tracy Schulte of Waukon; a step-sister, Danielle (Adam) Chase of  Waterville; two step-brothers, Mitchell Burroughs of Waukon and Mike Burroughs of New Lisbon, WI; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Stanley and Darlene “Boots” Ewing and Bernard “Ben” and Virginia Schulte.

Honorary casketbearers are Jeremy Curtin, Joe and Shawn Schulte, and Trent McCormick. Casketbearers are Tony Beneke, Brooks Kruger, Bob Kubitz, Jared, Kyle and Reggie Schulte, Mike Kaeser and Lee Gavle.
