Lillian Christianson

Lillian E. Christianson, 85, of Waukon died Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating.

Friends may greet the family for one hour before and again during the lunch following the services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Lillian Eileen Christianson was born December 15, 1932 in Waukon. She was the daughter of John and Alice (Sanderson) Herman. Lillian was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. She attended rural elementary school before graduating from Waukon High School in 1950.

November 27, 1951 she married Hilmen Cornelius Christianson at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Lillian’s days were full as she was a busy homemaker and farmwife in addition to mother to four boys. After she and Hilmen moved to Waukon, Lillian worked as a dietary aid at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon for 19 years.

Lillian was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and the Rachel Circle there. She also spent time as a volunteer at the Allamakee County Food Shelf. She did wonderful handiwork and was known for her embroidery, cross stitch and needlepoint projects. For many years she baked cakes for graduations, weddings and other special occasions. Lillian also enjoyed raising a big garden, playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren, and the annual trip she took with her sisters for the past 25 years.

Survivors include her husband, Hilmen; three sons, Richard, Robert (Carol) and Steven, all of Waukon; four grandchildren: Heather (Mike) Kleiboer of Decorah, Kelly (Greg) Mahoney of Ely, Brock (Sarah) Christianson of Waukon and Lauryn (Logan  Breitsprecher) Christianson of Calmar; seven grandchildren, Katelyn and Dawson Kleiboer, Mason, Mitch and Emma Mahoney, Greyson Breitsprecher and Griffin Christianson; a brother, Virgil (Darlena) Herman of Waukon; and three sisters: Shirley (Charles) Rosendahl of La Crescent, MN, Arleen McGuire of Hiawatha and Margaret Kruse of Eitzen, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Victor; and a brother, Alton Herman.
