Kee baseball team has 10-game win streak snapped with home losses to South Winn in battle of UIC unbeatens and defending Class 3A State Champion

Perfect in relief ... Kee baseball junior Ryan Whalen rears back to deliver a pitch in the Hawks’ home doubleheader sweep of Starmont Monday, June 11. Between the two contests, Whalen threw a combined four innings of perfect middle-inning relief, striking out two batters without a hit, run or walk allowed, while also going two-for-two at the plate in game one with a team-high two runs scored. The Kee baseball team played a trio of varsity doubleheaders this past week, putting two of those six games in the win column to leave the Hawks’ season record at 10-6 overall, including an Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) mark of 8-2. A split with UIC opponents included home wins of 5-3 and 3-0 over Starmont Monday, June 11 followed by a pair of losses at home, 8-3 and 6-5, to the other undefeated UIC team, South Winneshiek, Thursday, June 14. The Hawks then wrapped up their week with another sweeping home loss to the only team in the state of Iowa with more summer baseball State Championships than the Hawks, Class 3A top-rated Davenport Assumption, Friday, June 15 by scores of 8-2 and 11-0 in five innings.

In a rather light week this week, the Hawks were scheduled to play at North Fayette Valley Monday, June 18 before playing in the annual Jeff Houg Tournament in Waukon Saturday, June 23. A trio of road doubleheaders await the Hawks the following week, including at MFL/MarMac Monday, June 25, at Crestwood Thursday, June 28 and against Dunkerton at Upper Iowa University Friday, June 29.
