Waukon baseball team starts busy week with four wins - including first NEIC victories, ends it with three straight losses in the same night to Charles City

The Waukon baseball team put together its most successful stretch of the season for another winning week, starting that timeframe with four consecutive wins to extend a five-game winning streak before having that streak ended by a three-game sweep suffered to end the week. That winning beginning started with a 10-3 home win over Clayton Ridge/Central Tuesday, June 12 before the Indians got their first Northeast Iowa Conference victory of the season with a doubleheader sweep at Crestwood Wednesday, June 13 by scores of 5-4 and 2-0. Those winning ways continued with an 11-6 triumph at Osage Thursday, June 14 before that success streak was halted by three losses all on the same night against Charles City Friday, June 15. With all three of those games having to be completed in New Hampton due to a wet Charles City baseball field, the Tribe suffered a 10-0 loss in five innings in a game that got its start at Waukon May 25 before being rained out, and was then dealt losses of 8-3 and 7-4 in games where the Indians held early leads.

Now holding an 8-10 overall record with a 2-7 mark in the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC), the Indians were scheduled to host Class 3A 10th-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, June 18, make up a June 8 home varsity doubleheader with Class 3A ninth-rated Decorah Tuesday, June 19 and host Oelwein for a varsity doubleheader Wednesday, June 20 before traveling to Decorah Friday, June 22 and then hosting its own Jeff Houg Tournament Saturday, June 23, details of which can be found in a shaded box elsewhere on these same Sports pages. The Indians are then slated to wrap up their regular season with another busy week of four consecutive nights of baseball, including a varsity doubleheader at Class 2A ninth-rated New Hampton Tuesday, June 26, and back-to-back non-conference contests, at Starmont Wednesday, June 27 and at home against Postville Thursday, June 28, before hosting Crestwood Friday, June 29.
