Family and friends of Nancy (Frana) Knutson of Bloomington, WI, formerly of Waukon, will be hosting a benefit event for her this Saturday, July 28 at the Waukon Banquet Center. The benefit event is geared toward raising funds to help pay for medical bills and other life adjustments that may develop for Knutson from recent heightened health issues with diabetes.

Knutson has been battling diabetes for nearly half her life but the past six months have resulted in a series of amputations due to poor circulation and ensuing infection. She had her toes amputated on her right foot in February of this year, but then developed an infection and had to have that right leg amputated as well in June.

She is currently recovering at home but makes frequent follow-up medical visits. She is also in the process of being fitted for a prosthetic leg and is determined she will walk again, according to benefit organizers.

A 1995 graduate of Waukon High School, many may remember the former Nancy Frana from working at Hardee’s in Waukon from her high school days until she and her family moved to Bloomington, WI several years ago. She transfered to the Hardee’s in Prairie du Chien, WI and had been working there up until her most recent heightened health issues, with plans to return once she is able. She has one child, 21-year-old Maysen, and Nancy and her husband, Chet Knutson, currently make their home in Bloomington, WI.

The benefit event will begin at 12 noon at the Waukon Banquet Center, with a meal and other refreshments being available from 12 noon to 3 p.m. and a silent auction taking place during that timeframe as well. At 3 p.m. a live auction will begin.

A fundraising account has also been established at Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank in Waukon. Anyone wishing to donate to the benefit event or seeking additional information may contact Marsha Reisner at 563-368-8121 or Sue Frana at 563-419-1454.
