Jeanne Wheeler

Jeanne L. Wheeler, 92, of Decorah died Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28 at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Jeanne Lorraine Wheeler was born February 17, 1926 in rural Waukon, the daughter of John and Millie (Nylund) Dotseth. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, graduated from Waukon High School in 1944, and received her LPN through Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Jeanne worked as a LPN for the Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

November 20, 1954, she married Norman Harley Wheeler at Messiah Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. They lived in Tintah, MN before moving to California for a short time. In 1959, they moved to the Frankville area where they farmed together until moving to Decorah in 2004.
Jeanne was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, where she was active in women’s fellowship. She was also a member of Post Franklin Study Club. Jeanne was dedicated to the Lord and her church. She enjoyed spending time and visiting with family and friends, gardening and sending greeting cards to family and friends for special occasions.

Survivors include her children: David (Penny) Wheeler of Postville, Norma Cornish of Webster City, Judy (Tony) Tague of Castalia, Jeff Wheeler of Marengo and Rodney Wheeler of Ridgeway; six grandchildren: Heather Tague, Jason (Dacia Osmundson) Tague, Jenny and Dawn Kinson, John Cornish and Leslie Espinoza; five great-grandchildren: Madelyn Tague, Devin Cornish, Urban Espinoza, and Ezra and Joshua Kinson; one brother, Robert Dotseth of Decorah; and a sister-in-law, Opel Larson of Wheaton, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman, who died in 2009; a granddaughter, Jamie Wheeler; a brother, John “Tex” (Ruth) Dotseth; two sisters-in-law, Pat Dotseth and Marjorie (Thomas) Broesdar; and a brother-in-law, Milton Larson.

Honorary casketbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were Eric and Bill Dotseth, Mark, Doug and Brian Larson, Gary and Tim Broesder, Kevin Helgerson, Dean Eickelberg, Greg Snitker, Greg Lage, Jamie Bodley, David Sorum, Lyle Henning, Danny White and Donny Hanson.
