Nurse midwife joins Gundersen Palmer Lutheran West Union and Postville Clinics

A familiar face at the Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union is now caring for women as a nurse midwife. Kylie Jirak, CNM, who has been a registered nurse at the hospital for the past six years, is now offering comprehensive well-women care at the Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital and Clinics in West Union and Postville.

Jirak will care for women from adolescence through menopause and offer a full-scope of pregnancy care - before, during and after a woman is pregnant. In addition, she will see women and teens for contraceptive management including IUD insertions and removals and will offer gynecologic care, yearly exams, Pap smears and sexual transmitted infection testing and treatment.

“Having worked as an RN in the hospital the past six years, I have seen the amazing care that Gundersen providers give, not only as a nurse, but personally,” says Jirak, who grew up in Spillville and now calls St. Lucas home. “I love that as a Gundersen provider I am able to give care close to home but have access to more specialized care if the need arises.”

Jirak earned her Master of Science degree in Nursing and Nurse-Midwife from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, KY. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

When not caring for patients, Jirak enjoys spending time with family - including her husband, Jordan, and their children, Kaden and Aria. She also likes to spend time reading, walking, shopping, watching Netflix and drinking coffee.

“I am thrilled to be able to offer women and their families in my community midwifery care and am passionate about the midwifery model of care,” Jirak said.
