The Kee cross country teams finally returned to the race course after more than two weeks idle from competition, with the Lady Hawks returning right to the top of their team race and the Hawk boys placing fifth in their first team-scored race of the season at North Fayette Valley Thursday, September 6. The Hawks sat completely idle two weeks ago when the August 28 Oelwein Invitational and August 30 Charles City meet addition were both canceled due to weather, and then had the Tuesday, September 4 Clayton Ridge Invitational also canceled before finally being able to compete at North Fayette Valley.

“It was a tough course with some muddy spots,” Kee cross country coach Pat Wagner said. “All in all, I am pleased with how we ran. Several runners improved their time from our first meet. It was just good to get out and compete, we really needed that. Several good performances with five girls and one guy earning medals. For the varsity boys, Michael Mattson and Daniel Wagner showed big improvement.”

Five girls finishing in the top-10 individuals headlined the Kee cross country girls’ rise to the top of the MFL/MarMac Invitational final team scoring. That top-end domination helped the Hawks compile just 22 team points, more than 40 points in front of the remaining field.
