Mary Ellen McMillan

Mary Ellen McMillan, 91, of Waukon died Friday, September 21, 2018 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.

Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, September 30 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 1:45 p.m. scripture service.

Mary Ellen McMillan was born June 15, 1927 in Waukon, the daughter of Frank and Cora (Donavan) Gavin. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church and attended St. Patrick Catholic School, both in Waukon. November 22, 1947, she married Roger McMillan at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Mary Ellen was very particular and had a routine on how she did the housekeeping and other day-to-day chores.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Patrick School, helping with the hot lunch program for many years. Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, cooking and baking, especially bread and pies; rhubarb and apple pies were her favorite. Mary Ellen was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and Atlanta Braves fan and she also enjoyed watching cooking shows on TV.

Survivors include her children: Cathy (John) Sheeley of Marion, Diane (Robert) Seibert of Pendleton, NY, and Patrick (Kathy) McMillan and Mike (Sue) McMillan, both of Waukon; 11 grandchildren: Kelly (Gary) Brinkmann, Molly (Chad) Breitbach, Jenny (Gordon) Dirks, Nicole and Meghan Seibert, Stephanie (Dave) Kuropatwinski, Matt, Chelsea, Morgan and Mason McMillan and Katie (Brad) Stahl; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger, who died in 1989; a son, Danny; a granddaughter, Lindsey McMillan; a great-granddaughter, Bailey Brinkmann; and two brothers, Vernon “Bud” and Harold Gavin.
