Harrison “Dick” Brown

Harrison John “Dick” Brown passed away peacefully September 25, 2018 surrounded by friends and family at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco after his long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. A private memorial service will be held locally at a later date.

Born January 3, 1935 in Hinsdale, IL, Harrison was the youngest of two children. After graduating from Downers Grove High School, Harrison joined the Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at the Pentagon working with computers. After being honorably discharged, he went on to graduate from Colorado University’s Business School before continuing on to Depaul University Law School.

Dick was introduced to Donna Jean Kearins at a dance and, after a short courtship, married January 28, 1961 in Chicago, IL. While raising four wonderful children, he worked his way up to Vice President of La Grange State Bank. Being an avid outdoorsman, Dick started a Ducks Unlimited chapter in the western suburbs of Chicago and organized many hunting and fishing excursions to Canada, Wisconsin and Iowa. Dick never turned down an opportunity for hunting, fishing, or a drink and smoke with friends. Dick branched out into real estate investment and moved to Homestead, FL in 1979 and later retired to Decorah in 1990.

Dick is survived by his children: Julie of Stuttgart, Germany, Kent of Denver, CO, Patrick of Seattle, WA and Harrison “Johnny” of Prior Lake, MN; and 10 grandchildren: Brian, Danny, Michael, Brad, Luke, Abby, Alex, Amelia, Kathleen and Harrison. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his brother, Taylor of Fremont, OH; his father, Kenneth Lorraine Brown of Homestead FL; and his mother, Margaret Lorraine (Taylor) Brown.
