Kee football team dominates Central Elkader in 54-8 road victory

In a battle of teams with 1-6 season records, the Kee football team looked anything but that as the grid Hawks rolled to a 54-8 triumph at Central Elkader Friday, October 12. Setting the tone on both sides of the ball early with both an offensive and defensive touchdown, the Hawks jumped to a 28-0 first quarter headstart and pitched a 54-0 shut-out until Central finally managed its lone scoreboard production in the fourth quarter.

“We challenged the boys to get off to a good start and set the tone early in the game,” Kee football coach Chad Winters said. “They rose up to the challenge and played a dominating first half.”

Racking up more than 300 yards of offense, the Hawks ground out 171 of those and four tallies on the ground while adding another 134 yards and three scoring strikes through the air. “I thought the offensive line (sophomore Hunter McKee and seniors Tony Martin and Shawn Wild) did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage and making life easier for (senior) Dylan (Walleser), (junior) Cam (Olson) and (first-time starting freshman quarterback) Damon (Weber),” Coach Winters praised. “Damon stepped up and did a lot of good things with his first-ever start under center. We were able to clean up the exchange problems we had last week and that made life a lot easier.”

Holding a now 2-6 season record, 2-4 in District 3 play, that will not allow extension of their season into the play-off realm, the football Hawks could still have some play-off impact when they wrap up their season hosting a Midland squad still in contention for the Eight-Player District 3 championship. Following a 40-28 home triumph over previously unbeaten Central City this past Friday, Midland is now locked in a three-way tie atop District 3 with Central City and Turkey Valley, the Trojans being responsible for Midland’s lone loss on the season.
