Ronald Gene Benzing was born March 8, 1943 at the hospital in Postville, the son of Robert Winston and Irene Marcel (Jones) Benzing. He was baptized and confirmed at the Giard United Methodist Church and graduated from Mar-Mac High School in McGregor.

April 4, 1964, Ron married Judith Emma Brown in Monona. The couple briefly lived in Cedar Rapids before making their home in Allamakee County. Ron did carpentry work, sold feed and worked for Herb’s Paint and Repair body shop out of Harpers Ferry. Out of all the things he ever did, Ron loved farming the most, especially combining. Throughout the years, he raised dairy and beef cows, grew crops and did custom work.

He was a member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville. When his children were younger, Ron was a 4-H leader. His all-time favorite thing was Allis-Chalmers tractors and consequently his favorite color was orange. Ron enjoyed restoring old tractors and belonged to the Rivers and Bluffs Classic Tractor Club. He also enjoyed bowling, country music, frequently going out dancing with Judy, and watching his grandkids’ sporting events.

Ron is survived by his wife, Judy; his son, Brian (Deb), and their children: Bryana, Dustin, Eric and Emily, his son, Brad (Becky), and their children: Kody, Kaley and Katelyn, his son, Bruce (Leah), and their children: Tyler, Adam, Nathan and Carter, his son, Blaire (Lori), and their children: Brittani, Carlee, Mitch and Cole, and his son, Blaine (Andrea), and their children: Lakin and Jenna; four brothers: Roger (Diane), Paul (Margaret), David (Sharon) and Kevin (Karen); two sisters-in-law: Jan (Rick) Snitker and Carolyn Brown; and two brothers-in-law: Jerry (Celia) Brown and Joel (Jeannie) Brown.
