Rosemary Knopf

Rosemary Knopf, 92, of Lansing died Friday, November 9, 2018 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, November 16 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing with Rev. John Moser as the celebrant. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.

Rosemary was the daughter of Louis and Anna (Wendler) Knopf. She went to school at Faegre Prairie Road Country School near Churchtown and on to Immaculate Conception School in Lansing, and belonged to Immaculate Conception Parish her whole life.

She worked for Lansing Company from 1957 to 1993, advancing to being a buyer, traveling throughout the world, buying buttons. She owned RK’s Women’s Apparel Shop, and later turned the store into RK’s Nook restaurant. She worked as a McNess distributor, and helped her brother, Cyril Knopf, farm on Dry Ridge, rural Lansing.

Rosemary was a member of a local women’s business society called Wa Tan Ye Club. She belonged to card party groups. She was a member of the Republican party committee, participated in Iowa primary caucuses, and volunteered at local elections. She also volunteered at Thornton Manor, helping residents play bingo.

She enjoyed crocheting and making comforter blankets. She went to writing and painting classes. She enjoyed painting scenes of local places and writing about life around Lansing in her writing group. Rosemary loved her relatives, friends and neighbors, and always wanted to be helpful to them. She enjoyed being surrounded by children when families visited. She loved her many dogs, all named Daisy.

Rosemary is survived by many nieces and nephews; and her extended family, the staff at Thornton Manor.  She was preceded in death by her brothers, Cyril, Edward, Lawrence and Leo; and her sisters, Clara Krieger, Loretta McDonough, Rita Gusloff, Evelyn McKee and Leona Knopf.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
