A Friday, December 7 event will see the Waukon High School gymnasium dedicated in honor and in the name of a man who likely spent more time and touched more lives in that same gym and during his coaching and teaching career than anyone else. During that Friday, December 7 home game series against Oelwein for the Waukon girls basketball team, a ceremony will be held between the junior varsity and varsity contests to unveil what will be the newly dedicated Dave Schoeberlein Gymnasium at Waukon High School.

The night’s events will begin with the 5 p.m. freshman contest, with the junior varsity game scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. Following the conclusion of that junior varsity contest - a scene Coach Schoeberlein had graced for more than 30 years as a junior varsity and varsity assistant coach for the Waukon girls basketball program prior to his unexpected passing September 28, 2017, a dedication ceremony will take place to forever commemorate the contributions Coach Schoeberlein made to the Waukon girls basketball program and to countless lives of students in the classroom and athletes on the court, field, track or elsewhere during his career. Following the dedication ceremony, the evening’s game series will conclude with the varsity contest between Oelwein and Waukon.

Following the games, a reception will be held in the Waukon High School cafeteria. A further social gathering will also take place at the Waukon City Club on Main Street in Waukon.

The dedication and the transformation of the gymnasium to Dave Schoeberlein Gymnasium was made possible by contributions made by the Waukon girls basketball “family” of past players and others associated with the program.
