Cora “Mabel” Batteen
Cora “Mabel” Batteen, age 95, of St. Louis Park, MN died Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia, MN. Mass Of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5900 West Lake Street in St. Louis Park, MN with Fr. Joseph Johnson as Celebrant of the Mass. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Shorewood, MN.
Cora Mabel Batteen was born the youngest of four children on her mother’s birthday, January 3, 1923. Named after her mother, she was always called by her middle name. Of English, Irish and Scottish descent, Mabel was blessed with beautiful red hair and naturally youthful skin. Mabel loved growing up on the same family farm in Waukon that her father was also raised on.
May 19, 1942 Mabel was united in marriage with Ralph Morris Batteen. The couple moved with their four young children from the family’s beloved farm to Minneapolis, MN. Mabel and Ralph, along with their family, soon settled in St. Louis Park, MN, where Mabel remained for the next 50 years. Ralph passed away in 2000.
Mabel became an avid volunteer at Holy Family Catholic Church and the St. Louis Park Senior Center. In her spare time, Mabel enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, cooking, watching baseball and playing trivia. Throughout her life, Mabel possessed a strong faith in God. She conscientiously prayed her rosary each and every day and attended daily Mass as much as she could. Mabel lived by the “Golden Rule” and never said a bad word about anyone.
Mabel cared deeply for her family and always gave her whole heart and soul to them. She was selfless, sweet, kind, thoughtful and generous. Intelligent, practical, hard-working, frugal and down-home hospitality were some of her many qualities. Mabel will be sadly missed by all the many people who loved her.
Mabel is preceded in death by her parents, John and Cora McCabe; her brother, Robert McCabe; and her sisters, Alice Williams and Helen Anderson. Mabel is survived by her loving family, including her children: Donald (Margaret) Batteen of St. Louis Park, MN, Carol (Judith Bagen) Batteen of Minneapolis, MN, Susan (David) Leffler of Waconia, MN and Lorraine (Gerald) Kothrade of Princeton, MN; her grandchildren: Jennifer Batteen, Christopher (Kate) Batteen, Theresa (Mark) Rothermal, Andrea (Justin) Ruud, Nicholas Leffler, Mandy Kothrade and Michael (Patty) Kothrade; 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, MN.
