Ronald Mauss

Ronald R. Mauss, 74, of Kentwood, MI, formerly of Waukon, died Friday, December 21, 2018 at his home in Kentwood, MI. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 5 at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating, and burial was in the church cemetery.

Ronald Raymond Mauss was born September 9, 1944 in Waukon, the son of Raymond and Leona (Selberg) Mauss. In 1962, Ron graduated from Waukon High School and then went on to receive an engineering degree from Iowa State University. After moving to California in 1966, Ron earned his Master of Engineering degree from California State University in Los Angeles in 1972.

While on a trip to Germany, Ron met Helga Ratenburg and the couple married in 1969, and later divorced in 1980. They had two loving daughters, Kirsten and Karin. He worked for General Dynamics in California from 1967-89, working with guided missile systems for the Navy, before moving to Oxnard, CA for another job in the aerospace industry. In 1994, Ron moved to Michigan, where he has resided ever since.

Ron was a member of Brookside Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, MI, as well as at Salem United Church of Christ in Waukon. Ron loved going to church to see his friends and liked going to his exercise classes. He also enjoyed classic cars, dogs and listening to music. Ron was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

Ron is survived by his two daughters, Kirsten (Dema) Salin and Karin (Jordan) Mauss Keville; four grandchildren: Mia, Avery and Elle Salin, and Dylan Keville; and three sisters: Ann (Gary) Spoelhof, Sandra (Jim) Lanning and Sheryl (Joe) Lea. He was preceded in death by his parents.
