Ruth Borcherding

Ruth A. Borcherding, 92, of Waukon died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 5 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Pastor Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Ruth Alvina Borcherding was born March 5, 1926 in Waukon, the daughter of John and Lucia (Christ) Sieg. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ and attended rural Elk country school in Makee Township in rural Waukon. Ruth worked at a factory in Decorah during WWII making parachutes to be used in airplanes.

June 5, 1945, she married Arthur Louis Borcherding. Ruth and Arthur bought a farm north of Luana, where they farmed until Arthur’s death in 1979; she then moved to Waukon.

Ruth was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a very caring mother and grandmother and enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Ruth also always had a dog with her.

Survivors include her children: Judy (Charles) Shuros of Dorchester, Mary (Russell) Imoehl of Garner, Norman Borcherding of Luana and Carol Tryon of Waukon; 11 grandchildren: Jennifer (Marc) Mikkelson, Teresa Laham, Allan (Miriam) Shuros, Kristi (Cory) Malek, Michelle Imoehl, Melissa (Andy) Eldridge, Laura (Jeff) Rasmussen, Charles Tryon, Chad (Ikha) Tryon, Carlton Tryon and John (Angreina) Knudtson; and 19 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a grandson, Clifford Tryon, who died in 2012.

Honorary casketbearers were Ruth’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were Charles, Chad and Carlton Tryon, Allan Shuros, John Knudtson and Colten Mikkelson. Online condolences may be left at www.martinfunerals.com.
