Community invited to take part in Robey Memorial Library’s World Read Aloud Day scheduled for February 1; Sign up now to participate

Every year, World Read Aloud Day is a global celebration that calls attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to read aloud together to advocate for literacy as a human right.

Friday, February 1, Robey Memorial Library in Waukon will observe this special event by filling its open hours at the library with stories read aloud by community volunteers and library staff. Individuals, groups and classrooms from throughout the community are invited to participate by spending part of their day at Robey Memorial Library reading aloud or listening to a book being read aloud.

Participants can sign up to read for 15-minute sessions between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. during that February 1 event, and they can bring their own appropriate reading material. Other special activities during the day will be a Story Walk, where participants read an interactive story as they move through different areas of Robey Memorial Library, and two Story Times scheduled for 10:30-11 a.m. and 3:30-4 p.m.

Those interested in reading during the World Read Aloud Day can now sign up by contacting Robey Memorial Library at 563-568-4424 or emailing to robeymemorial@waukon.lib.ia.us.
