Waukon wrestling team fi nishes NEIC dual schedule shy of a win vs. second-rated W-SR and Charles City, wins two of four match-ups at Riceville Duals Tournament

The Waukon wrestling team competed in a busy latter portion of this past week, wrestling in what amounted to six dual meets in a 48-hour period. The first two of those bouts wrapped up the Indians’ Northeast Iowa Conference dual meet schedule without a win in a double-dual at Waverly Thursday, January 17, as the mat Tribe first fell to Class 3A second-rated Waverly-Shell Rock, 79-0, before also falling to Charles City by a 63-12 count. The Indian matmen then wrestled four duals at the Riceville Dual Tournament Saturday, January 19, posting wins over Central Elkader, 42-12, and Tripoli, 34-18, but also falling to New Hampton/Turkey Valley, 55-6, and to the host school, 33-18.

The wrestling Tribe was next scheduled to wrestle at MFL/MarMac Thursday, January 24 against the host Bulldogs, as well as North Linn and Maquoketa Valley before competing in the Northeast Iowa Conference Tournament at Charles City Saturday, January 26. The Indians are then scheduled to open postseason tournament play at Decorah Saturday, February 2, details of which can be found in a shaded box elsewhere on these same Sports pages in the print and e-edition of The Standard.
