Marie Deufel

Marie (Staggemeyer) Deufel died February 4, 2019 at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia, MN. Funeral services were held Monday, February, 11 at St. Luke’s Church in Eitzen, MN with Pastor Michael McCann officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Marie was born November 1, 1920 in Wilmington Township, rural Caledonia, MN to William and Nellie (Wermager) Dahle. She graduated from Caledonia High School in 1938.

March 16, 1939, Marie married Fremont “Butch” Staggemeyer. Together they owned The Dugout in Eitzen, MN for 28 years. They then had a trucking business and stockyards for many years; Butch retired in 1974. Marie’s beloved husband, Butch, died in 1976 after battling cancer. She married Lawrence Deufel October 17, 1987 and he also preceded her in death.

Marie worked at the Eitzen Locker for 30 years, retiring at the age of 82. She was a member of St. Luke’s Church in Eitzen, MN, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Dean (Betty) Staggemeyer of Eitzen, MN and Rick Staggemeyer (Verna Quandahl) of Spring Grove, MN; three grandchildren, Kelly Staggemeyer of Milwaukee, WI, Shelly (Mark) Tollefson of Caledonia, MN and Chad (Teri) Staggemeyer of Rockford, MN; and three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Cavanaugh, Kyle Cavanaugh and Isaac Staggemeyer. Marie also is survived by two step-children, Kathy (John) Meyer of Dorchester and Joe (Joni) Deufel of Albert Lea, MN; seven step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her first husband and second husband, Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louie and Emma Staggemeyer; a daughter-in-law, Alice Staggemeyer; a granddaughter, LaDawn Mary Staggemeyer; and her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Bill Towner.
