Allamakee County residents reminded that property taxes are due by the end of March

Allamakee County Treasurer Lori Hesse would like to remind property owners the second installment of property taxes is due by the end of this month (March 2019). With the end of March falling on the weekend (Sunday, March 31), property owners will have until Monday, April 1 to pay their taxes without penalty.

Payments may be made in person at the Allamakee County Treasurer’s Office in the Allamakee County Courthouse at 110 Allamakee Street in Waukon between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Property owners should bring their tax stubs with their payment to ensure proper credit. To avoid penalty on the second installment, payment must be received in the Treasurer’s Office by Monday, April 1. Penalty begins Tuesday, April 2.

E-check and credit card payments are also accepted online at www.iowatreasurers.org. For convenience, the Treasurer’s Office accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards in its office for payments on taxes and motor vehicle registrations. There is an additional fee for using a debit card. The credit card companies set the fees charged for using their credit cards. It is the same fee as charged on the internet payment system.

A drop box is also located in the north parking lot of the Allamakee County Courthouse for dropping off payments. Upon exiting the parking lot via the east access, drivers will find the box on their left - the driver’s side of their vehicle.
Elderly Credit or Rent Reimbursements: Those who are at least 65 years of age as of December 31, 2018 or totally disabled and have a total household income of less than $23,216.00 may be eligible for additional tax credit on their home. The deadline to sign up for this tax credit is June 1 of this year.
