Allamakee Music Boosters to host “The Cat’s Pajamas” a capella vocal band this Friday

The Cat’s Pajamas Vocal Band ...

The Cat’s Pajamas Vocal Band, a national touring professional a cappella group, will be performing at the Waukon High School Auditorium Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m. as part of the group’s 12th annual Music in Our Schools Tour.

“The Cat’s Pajamas” has received national acclaim on NBC’s hit show “The Sing-Off” and on the PBS special “Doo-Wop Generations”. The group also performed as a headlining act on the boardwalk of Atlantic City, at the Andy Williams Theater in Branson, MO, and as guest entertainers with Norwegian, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Lines.

“They are so energetic and fun!” stated Brenda Dougherty of the Allamakee Music Boosters. “They relate to all ages, young and old. You will be singing their music and humming the tunes for week’s afterwards!”

“The Cat’s Pajamas” performs pop classics and hits from today, including songs from The Temptations and Queen. Also featured in the show are current hits by Cardi B, Jason Mraz, Ed Sheeran, and new medleys of Maroon 5 and Bruno Mars, all performed in the group’s innovative and funk-infused a cappella style. This interactive group appeals to all ages and keeps the crowd laughing, dancing and singing along for the entire show.

The group’s goal is to inspire students, generate increased excitement and passion for music, and encourage all youth and teens to get involved in the arts. The group teaches and mentors students during the school day, focusing on singing techniques as well as sharing their personal journeys and testimonies about how they have turned their love for music into professional careers. That night, The Cat’s Pajamas puts on a world class show for the entire community, and they donate a portion of those profits directly to the Allamakee Schools music program. To date, The Cat’s Pajamas has raised over $150,000 for music education.

“A capella vocal bands are so popular right now and the quality of The Cat’s Pajamas measures up to any of the shows on TV,” states Erin Berns of the Allamakee Music Boosters. “They are amazingly talented individuals and unbelievable that we can get them right here in Waukon!”

This is the third time the Allamakee Music Boosters have hosted the Cat’s Pajamas in Waukon in the last seven years, so many may remember seeing them before.

“Each year the Boosters try to offer a great music event to the community in March during ‘Music In our Schools Month’ and we are so happy to have the Cat’s Pajamas back in Waukon, by popular demand,” Berns adds. “We really hope to have a great turn-out for the show. All ages will love them. And the proceeds will be going right back into our own school music programs.”

The pre-show entertainment will include the local men’s barbershop quartet  “Three Guys and a Lawyer,” which includes Greg Hagensick, Jim Bieber, John Payne and Kevin Stinn.
