Richard Snitker

Richard Nathan Snitker, 61, of Monona died Tuesday, March 26, 2019 after a hard battle with cancer. A Celebration of His Life will be held Tuesday, April 2 from 4-7 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona.

Rick was born September 15, 1957 in Postville to Nathan and Joann (Andregg) Snitker. He attended school over the years in Postville and Waukon, ultimately graduating from MFL in 1975.

June 24, 1978 Rick married Janette Brown of Monona. To this union, two children were born; Jessica and Michael. Over the years, the family lived in many different places, eventually making their way back to Monona.

While Rick enjoyed farming and carpentry work, driving semi was by far his favorite job, which became a passion he passed on to his son. His favorite pastimes included fishing with his grandson and cutting wood with the boys. Rick had a knack for making conversation with anyone and everyone. You could often find him at Kwik Star getting coffee and socializing with the guys. He was always willing to help anyone he could.

Rick is survived by his wife, Janette; his daughter, Jessica (Brandon) Wilder; his son, Mike Snitker (Paige and Oaklynn Bolsinger); and Rick’s (a.k.a. Poppy’s) pride and joy was his only grandson, Collin Wilder. He is also survived by three brothers,  Bruce (Connie) Snitker, Craig (Kathy) Snitker and Clark (Norma) Snitker; two sisters-in-law: Judy Benzing and Carolynn Brown; two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Celia) Brown and Joel (Jeanne) Brown; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joann Johnson and Nathan Snitker; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Ella Brown; and two brothers-in-law, Ronald Benzing and Jack Brown.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona assisted the family with arrangements.
